How durable is the Galaxy Z TriFold’s folding mechanism?

The Galaxy Z TriFold, as a first-generation foldable device, has raised questions regarding its durability, particularly with its dual hinges and expansive screen that folds in two places. Samsung initially claimed the device could withstand up to 200,000 folds and unfolds. However, a recent test revealed that one hinge began to creak after 61,000 operations, and the second followed suit at 121,000. Ultimately, around 144,000 folds in, the hinge’s elasticity diminished, causing the device to not remain fully open without force. Despite this, the screen continued to function perfectly, suggesting the device didn’t entirely fail. Though the results fell short of Samsung’s claims, the test conditions were extreme, and typical usage might yield a longer lifespan.
