How is MIMOS advancing deep tech innovation in Malaysia?

MIMOS Berhad, the national R&D agency under Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, is spearheading the country’s deep tech innovation to benefit industries and the nation. The agency has developed technologies such as blockchain, semiconductors, and AI, including the national MyDigital ID. MIMOS focuses on future tech trends to ensure innovations provide substantial benefits. It is actively exploring neuromorphic computing and quantum intelligence, and it supports MOSTI’s initiatives in space technology and rare earth elements.

Commercialisation is a key goal, with MIMOS balancing market demand and deep tech advancements to offer suitable solutions. The agency works closely with industry players from the outset to ensure successful technology adoption. MIMOS collaborates with technology firms and startups to develop intermediary-level technologies, boosting local capabilities and the tech ecosystem.

The annual MIMOS Technology Preview showcases new technologies, contributing to Malaysia’s intellectual property and export value. Emphasizing tech sovereignty, MIMOS aims to integrate locally developed ICs into the national ecosystem. The agency’s innovations, recognized by 22 awards at ITEX 2025, address national challenges, including energy savings and advancements in the palm oil sector. Notable projects include infrared technology for palm oil monitoring and Reva In-Vitro for real-time liquid sample analysis.
