How is NTT DATA accelerating AI coding with Cursor?

NTT DATA has announced a strategic collaboration with Cursor, an AI coding platform, to expedite the modernization of enterprise software. This partnership aims to integrate AI-powered coding agents into NTT DATA’s global engineering operations, enhancing software development, code modernization, and governance for AI-assisted engineering. The initiative aligns with NTT DATA’s strategy to become an AI-native technology services provider, assisting enterprises in modernizing legacy applications and accelerating digital transformation.

By embedding AI agents into software engineering workflows, NTT DATA intends to boost developer productivity, ensure consistency across delivery teams, and reduce the time needed for designing and modernizing enterprise applications. The approach also supports governance through centralized administration, privacy controls, audit capabilities, and policy enforcement.

Abhijit Dubey, CEO and Chief AI Officer of NTT DATA, Inc., emphasized the transformative role of AI in enterprise modernization, stating that integrating AI into engineering operations can accelerate modernization, improve quality at scale, and deliver greater business value.

Cursor’s platform offers developers tools to write, review, refactor, and modernize code using AI agents that comprehend the broader codebase context across multiple AI models. It includes features like Single Sign-On (SSO), privacy controls, AI agent permissions, and centralized management to meet security and compliance standards.

The collaboration supports clients in large-scale cloud migrations, legacy application modernization, and enterprise AI initiatives by aligning software delivery with organizational AI strategies. Jordan Topoleski, COO at Cursor, highlighted the impact of AI on reshaping enterprise software development and expressed enthusiasm for supporting NTT DATA’s transformation.

NTT DATA has started deploying Cursor Enterprise to selected engineering teams, with plans for global expansion as adoption increases. The company will also establish a Cursor Center of Excellence to develop best practices and support AI-powered software engineering across various industries.

This partnership underscores a growing trend among technology service providers to integrate AI-native development tools into enterprise software delivery, as organizations seek faster application modernization, improved developer efficiency, and enhanced governance for AI-enabled workflows.
