The startup Shifters, specializing in autonomous ground robotics, has secured $10.2 million in seed funding to further develop AI-driven robotic teams aimed at defense, security, and high-risk environments. This funding round, led by Ace Capital Partners, elevates the company’s total funding to $15 million with contributions from Aurelius Capital Management, Corner Ventures, Arkin Capital, STEP World, and Fresh Fund. Shifters is advancing supervised autonomous robots that can precede human operators into hazardous zones, facilitating information gathering, condition assessment, and risk reduction. The company’s innovative platform enables a single operator to manage multiple robots, enhancing reconnaissance and search-and-rescue missions. CEO Ofer Ballin emphasized the importance of deploying robots into dangerous environments to minimize human risk. Shifters is also focusing on manufacturing readiness and international expansion, with operations in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. The platform is designed with open-system principles, allowing for integration of specialized sensors and payloads. While initially targeting defense applications, Shifters also sees potential in commercial sectors like infrastructure inspection and agriculture. CTO Assaf Chaprak highlighted the dual hardware and software challenges in creating scalable robotic systems that simplify human supervision while operating in complex environments.
