The Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a level of home-screen customization few smartphones can match: you can set separate home screens for the cover display and the inner foldable display. Easy to toggle off, this option transforms how you organize apps, widgets and wallpapers depending on which screen you’re using.
Why separate the Galaxy Z Fold 8 home screens
By default, both displays share the same layout: anything placed on one screen automatically appears on the other. That mirrored mode can be confusing on a Fold because the unfolded inner display has different proportions than the cover. In mirrored mode, the left half of the unfolded screen corresponds to the first page of the cover screen and the right half maps to the second page — even if that second cover page doesn’t yet exist. The practical result: dropping an icon on the right half of the unfolded display immediately creates a second page on the cover, which can make your launcher feel cluttered.
How to enable separate home screens
The process is short and reversible:
– Pinch the home screen to open home options.
– Tap Settings.
– Locate Cover screen mirroring (or similar) and set it to OFF.
With mirroring turned off, each display keeps its own layout: you can place icons on the left or right half of the inner screen without affecting the cover display.
What changes — and what remains global
Turning off mirroring gives you more flexibility: you can define distinct home layouts, use different wallpapers, place specific widgets, and configure folder grid sizes separately for each screen. Some settings remain global, however — for example, the App size on Home and Apps screen (icon and app sizing) applies to both displays whether mirroring is on or off.
One final practical note: disabling mirroring does not delete your mirrored configuration. The system saves both the mirrored and the separate setups independently, so you can switch between modes without losing your customizations.
