Apple is reportedly set to unveil the iPad mini 8 with an OLED display this week, with attendees invited to Apple’s Los Angeles experience on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, expected to get hands‑on time with the device alongside new MacBook Pro models and an iMac. In a post on X on October 26, 2026, Mark Gurman suggested the new iPad mini could be announced as soon as today or tomorrow.
iPad mini 8: Expected features
The next iPad mini is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s 2nm process, offering roughly 1.5× faster CPU performance and about 2.5× faster GPU performance compared with the A17 Pro in the current model. A20 Pro reportedly introduces a “dual 16‑core Neural Engine,” for a total of 32 cores.
With the A20 Pro, the iPad mini 8 is expected to ship with 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the current model. That increase in memory is said to enable the device to support the ability to customize the pace and expressiveness of Siri AI’s voice.
Apple is reported to switch the iPad mini to a slightly larger OLED display, delivering richer colors, higher contrast and true blacks compared with the current LCD. Apple has reportedly tested both 60Hz and 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates for this display, but it is not clear which option the company will choose.
The device is also expected to feature slimmer bezels around the screen compared with the current model, and a landscape front camera placed in the right bezel when the tablet is held upright.
On connectivity, Apple’s custom‑designed N1 chip is expected to bring Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, while cellular configurations may use either a C1X or C2 modem.
The iPad mini 8 could include a redesigned speaker system with no visible speaker holes and potentially an iPhone‑style earpiece speaker built into the top bezel. Sources also say the device may receive an IP‑rated water resistance rating for the first time.
Event context and pricing
Invited guests at the Los Angeles experience on October 28 are expected to see the iPad mini 8 alongside MacBook Pro models with touch‑enabled OLED displays, a 14‑inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip and an iMac with an M6 chip. In the U.S., the current iPad mini starts at $599 after a $100 price increase in June that Apple attributed to rising RAM and storage chip prices; with the addition of an OLED panel, the next model might be even more expensive.
