Apple is reportedly preparing a substantial production run for the standard iPhone 18, with production said to begin in late November, according to a Weibo post by the leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital,” who described the inventory being prepared as “quite large.”
iPhone 18 production plans
The report places a late-November start for production of the standard iPhone 18, giving Apple several months to build inventory ahead of the expected spring 2027 unveiling. The same account framed the scale of the run as “quite large.”
Context from iPhone 17 performance
Apple’s confidence appears linked to the iPhone 17’s strong performance. After the iPhone 17’s initial pre-order weekend, reports said Apple instructed two suppliers to increase daily output by at least 30%. Counterpoint Research later reported that the standard iPhone 17 led global smartphone sales in both the first and second quarters of 2026, accounting for 6% of worldwide smartphone unit sales in each quarter and outselling the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro.
Expected changes and launch lineup
The iPhone 18 is expected to keep a broadly similar design to its predecessor, with potential upgrades that include a smaller Dynamic Island, the A20 chip and Apple’s C2 modem. It is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027.
