Rumors suggest Samsung is working on the Galaxy S27 Edge for a possible 2027 return, with reports converging on the idea of a new ultra-thin model but disagreeing on core specifications.
Galaxy S27 Edge: conflicting specs and the ultra-thin angle
The circulating leaks are already conflicting. One report claims the Galaxy S27 Edge would feature a 5.8-inch display, a 4,300mAh battery and a body in the low-4mm range. A counter-rumor puts the screen at 6.8 inches and the thickness at 5.4mm. Both accounts, however, centre on Samsung pursuing an ultra-thin Edge variant.
The original Galaxy S25 Edge did not receive a sequel this year. That model had a 6.7-inch display and measured 5.8mm thick; it reportedly fell short of Samsung’s sales expectations, in part because early buyers complained about subpar battery life.
Samsung has officially adopted silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra already use Si-C batteries, and Samsung is expected to roll the technology out to more Galaxy models in 2027. Given that battery life was a notable weakness of the Galaxy S25 Edge, a Si-C battery could materially address that issue if implemented in a future Edge model.
Apple is also rumored to launch a new iPhone Air in early 2027, a development that observers say could make it plausible for Samsung to return to the ultra-thin phone niche.
If Samsung does produce a new Edge model, it likely would not ship alongside the main Galaxy S27 quartet: the Galaxy S25 Edge was announced in May, four months after the S25 series debuted. More details will be needed to confirm specs and timing; further reports will clarify whether the Galaxy S27 Edge will actually materialize.
