The US Embassy in Jerusalem on Tuesday issued a security warning urging US citizens in the region to remain vigilant amid the “potential for unforeseen escalation” and to monitor airline updates for possible airspace closures that could cause flight disruptions or cancellations.

The embassy advised anyone planning travel in or out of the Middle East to keep an eye on airline communications. In its statement the embassy wrote: “Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other US interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world.”
Escalating strikes and retaliatory attacks
The warning was released shortly before US Central Command said it had begun a second wave of strikes against Iran in the past week, a move that prompted Tehran to launch a wave of retaliatory attacks. Iran has targeted US assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards saying the US Marine Corps base Camp Titin in Jordan faced an “intense ballistic missile attack.”
US Central Command said US forces struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets “including air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine laying capabilities, and communications sites,” posting the information on X. The US is understood to have targeted two Iranian government tankers in Tuesday’s strikes. These strikes followed exchanges of fire over the weekend—the first attacks since late July—and attacks on Monday on two tankers leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
Civilian impact and reactions
The Iranian Red Crescent said five people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 injured when shrapnel from a US missile attack hit a home where a wedding celebration was taking place in Sirik in southern Iran. The US military said it was aware of the reports but that it never targeted civilians.
Posting on Truth Social overnight, Donald Trump wrote he “couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless…agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,” adding, “They are just playing out the inevitable.”
