Samsung’s Ballie is back in the headlines after an online leak of a companion-app mockup — a document that suggests the project might not be completely abandoned.
What the mockup shows
The screenshot reveals a status card at the top of the interface displaying battery level, current location (Kitchen, Living Room, Station…), and an operational state (Ready or Error). It also shows a “Streaming” button and a “Home Monitor” button, which imply the app would control the robot’s onboard camera and monitoring features. A “Greeting” panel with a toggle is present, indicating an option to enable automatic welcome messages.
At the bottom of the screen are two tabs, Media and Robot. The Media tab appears aimed at controlling content projected by the device, while the Robot tab is not detailed in the mockup.
Context and background
Samsung introduced Ballie as a concept in 2020, then resurfaced with a redesigned version four years later, positioning it as substantially more capable and closer to commercialization. The company referenced an initial launch window of late 2024, later delayed to 2025, and even opened an interest signup page. No public release followed, and Ballie’s absence from a trade show scheduled for early 2026 reinforced suspicions that the project had been shelved.
What the mockup implies (with caveats)
The presence of UI elements focused on camera, monitoring and projection aligns with previous demos of Ballie’s capabilities and could indicate that internal development work on companion software continued. However, a leaked mockup is not definitive proof of an imminent product: design artifacts can persist long after projects are paused or reworked, and mockups may reflect unreleased or experimental features. Until Samsung provides official confirmation, this remains an intriguing hint rather than confirmation of a comeback.
