Samsung is reportedly developing a significant upgrade for facial recognition on the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This new system is expected to surpass the current technology, which relies on a simple 2D image scan from the selfie camera. Although details are sparse and the source is not widely recognized, the potential innovation is noteworthy as the device is not expected until 2027. The upgrade, known as “Polar ID v1.0,” is said to be part of the phone’s biometric security framework. It reportedly uses a polarized-light authentication system connected to the front ISOCELL Vizion sensor and a new secure enclave routine called BIO-Fusion Core. This method promises a quick unlock time of 180ms and enhanced protection against spoofing. By utilizing a high-resolution polarization signature of the skin, the system could offer improved security and functionality, even in various lighting conditions and when the user wears a mask or sunglasses.
