Is Amazon Engaging in Price-Fixing Tactics?

Newly revealed documents from a California antitrust lawsuit accuse Amazon of using aggressive strategies to maintain its pricing supremacy. The allegations suggest that Amazon coerced independent sellers into increasing prices on rival platforms such as Walmart and Target. Internal communications, including emails, depositions, and presentations, were obtained by the office of California Attorney General Rob Bonta and form the basis of these claims. The lawsuit argues that Amazon employed automated tools to monitor competitor pricing, penalizing vendors who listed lower prices elsewhere by reducing their visibility on Amazon, especially through the ‘Buy Box’ feature. Amazon has refuted these allegations, maintaining that its practices foster competition and do not aim to shield the company from market competition.
