Is Apple planning to integrate satellite features into iPhones?

Apple is set to enhance its iPhone capabilities by integrating satellite features, including an API for app developers to incorporate satellite connectivity and enabling Apple Maps to function via satellite. This expansion will allow users to access emergency SOS and road services in areas lacking mobile or Wi-Fi signals. New features will include sending photos through Messages without traditional network signals and connecting to satellites without needing to point the iPhone skyward. Basic functionalities will be free, while advanced options may incur carrier fees. Globalstar, Apple’s satellite partner, will upgrade its infrastructure with financial support from Apple. Additionally, Apple is negotiating a $1 billion annual deal with Google to use its generative AI, Gemini, to revamp Siri. There are also plans for an affordable MacBook aimed at the education sector.
