Apple experienced a significant surge in iPhone sales in China this October, with a remarkable 37% increase compared to the same period last year, driven by the strong demand for the iPhone 17 models. This achievement marks a notable market share milestone, as one in every four smartphones sold in the country was an iPhone, a level of dominance not seen since 2022. The iPhone 17 lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, exhibited impressive growth, particularly the standard iPhone 17.
The new models constituted over 80% of Apple’s sales, making this the most successful start to a December quarter for the company, surpassing the previous peak in October 2021. Despite potential competition from Huawei’s upcoming Mate 80 series, Apple’s momentum in the market remains strong, with little indication of a sharp decline.
Overall, China’s smartphone market saw an 8% year-over-year growth in October, bolstered by Apple’s performance and domestic brands like Xiaomi, which rose to the second spot for the first time in over a decade. However, the iPhone Air has not fared as well, receiving a tepid response in China and other markets.
