From April 29 to May 5, Geneva hosted the 58th plenary meeting of Working Party 4B (WP4B) under the International Telecommunication Union’s Radiocommunication Sector. During this event, a report titled “Development and Technology Trends of the 6G Satellite Component” was reviewed and approved, marking a milestone in satellite technology development. The report, spearheaded by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) with coordination from Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., explores advancements in radio interface technologies for 6G satellites. It delves into satellite development trends, network technologies, terminal evolution, and security issues. Key contributors include CICT Mobile Communication Technology Co., Ltd., China Telecom Global Satellite Communication Co., Ltd., Shanghai Micro Satellite Engineering Center, and ZTE Corporation.
Since 2020, Chinese organizations have been actively involved in setting standards for 5G/6G satellite radio interface technologies, aiming to integrate satellite and terrestrial technologies on a global scale. In June 2023, China’s delegation proposed the project on 6G satellite technology trends, with experts from CAICT and CICT Mobile taking editorial roles. The report’s approval signifies a major contribution by China’s radio technology sector to international standardization, paving the way for future 6G satellite technology standards.
