OpenAI has integrated its Codex coding agent into the ChatGPT mobile app, allowing iPhone and Android users to remotely access Codex sessions running on a Mac. This new feature enables users to stay connected from anywhere, as Codex performs tasks across laptops, devboxes, or remote environments. Codex remains a standalone app on Mac, but the mobile integration is now part of the existing ChatGPT app. To set it up, users need to update both the Codex Mac app and ChatGPT mobile app, then select the “Codex mobile” section in the Mac app and scan the displayed QR code with their phone. Once connected, the mobile app synchronizes with the live state on the Mac, allowing users to continue active chats or projects, receive notifications about task completions or needed inputs, and initiate new tasks via their phone. The app also enables users to review outputs, approve commands, switch between models, and add new prompts. While files, credentials, and permissions remain on the Mac, other data like screenshots and test results are sent to the phone in real-time. OpenAI advises users to pair only trusted devices. This feature follows the recent introduction of a Codex Chrome extension and hints at upcoming support for Windows.
