Is Huawei lowering Pura X prices to counter Samsung and Apple’s foldable launches?

Huawei Technologies has reduced the price of its Pura X flip-style smartphone, which features a widescreen display, as the market anticipates new foldable devices from Samsung and Apple. The company has slashed up to 800 yuan (US$114) off the price of the Pura X, which was launched in March, bringing the starting price to 6,899 yuan. This model distinguishes itself with a 6.3-inch display and a 16:10 aspect ratio, resembling a small tablet more than a typical phone. It is also Huawei’s first foldable to operate on HarmonyOS Next, an in-house developed operating system not compatible with Android. The price reduction is part of Huawei’s strategy to strengthen its market position amid growing competition. Both Samsung and Apple are expected to release foldables with similarly expansive screens. Huawei, a pioneer in foldable technology with unique trifold and widescreen designs, currently holds a dominant 70 percent share of China’s foldable market.
