Nintendo has announced that it will terminate the service for its mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, on Tuesday, September 29. After this date, the game will no longer be playable, and there are no plans to release an offline version. The purchase of in-game currency has been halted, and automatic subscription renewals have been discontinued in anticipation of the shutdown.
Players who previously subscribed to the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass will enjoy its benefits for free until September 29, while non-subscribers will gain access to these features starting August 4. The Gold Pass offers various perks, including Gold Gifts, Gold Challenges, 200cc races, increased daily coin and point limits, and a faster-filling pipe gauge. Players can continue to use their rubies in the Spotlight Shop, Mii Racing Suit Shop, and Coin Rush until the service concludes.
Mario Kart Tour, which debuted in September 2019, achieved over 90 million downloads in its first week. Similar to traditional Mario Kart games, it challenged players to race and outpace rivals using drifts and items across various tracks, featuring characters like Luigi, Toad, Shy Guy, Waluigi, Peach, and Toadette.
Nintendo has previously launched and discontinued several mobile games, such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Miitomo, Dr. Mario World, and Dragalia Lost. However, Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run, and the new game Pictonico remain available.
