Samsung Foundry is positioning itself as a strong contender to TSMC, which is currently unable to meet the full demand for 2nm chip production. AMD has been in negotiations with Samsung, and reports from South Korea indicate that a deal for 2nm chip manufacturing could soon be finalized. Additionally, AMD has a memorandum of understanding with Samsung to supply memory chips. The discussions between the two companies are advancing steadily, highlighted by AMD CEO Lisa Su’s visit to Samsung’s semiconductor complex in Pyeongtaek earlier this year. As the demand for CPUs is set to rise with the advent of AI technologies requiring advanced GPUs and CPUs, AMD is preparing for increased orders. While TSMC handles the majority of AMD’s CPU production, its 2nm capacity is largely booked until 2028. By partnering with Samsung Foundry, AMD aims to diversify its supply chain. This collaboration could be highly lucrative for Samsung, potentially generating billions by producing chips and supplying memory for AMD’s AI applications.
