Is Samsung progressing with its 1.4nm chip development?

Samsung Electronics recently reported its first-quarter earnings, revealing that nearly 94 percent of its profits were driven by its semiconductor chip division. The company has announced that it is on track with the development of its 1.4nm chips, aiming for readiness by 2027. Earlier this year, Samsung introduced the Exynos 2600, the world’s first 2nm mobile chip, which powers the Galaxy S26 series. This achievement has led to an increase in orders for 2nm and 4nm chips. Despite a decline in foundry earnings due to seasonal factors, Samsung has secured orders from high-performance computing firms and ventured into silicon photonics. In the second quarter of 2026, Samsung plans to maximize the production capacity of advanced nodes, with its 4nm process reaching over 80 percent yield. Samsung Foundry is also working to expand 2nm chip production, with Tesla reportedly placing a significant order for these chips to be used in its cars and AI servers.
