Samsung may be planning a significant change to its flagship lineup by retiring the Galaxy S Plus model after nearly a decade. Reports suggest that the Galaxy S26 Plus will not be part of the 2026 launch, with the Galaxy S26 Edge set to take its place as the mid-size model. This shift has sparked discussions among fans and tech enthusiasts about the future direction of Samsung’s smartphones.
The rumors began after the quiet introduction of the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this year, which hinted at a new naming convention. Korean publication The Elec recently reported that the Edge model will officially replace the Plus model in the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
Samsung is expected to release three models: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, with screen sizes of 6.27 inches, 6.66 inches, and 6.89 inches, respectively. This move marks a departure from the tradition of offering a larger mid-tier flagship, a role previously held by the Plus model since the Galaxy S8 Plus in 2017.
Currently, the Galaxy S25 lineup includes the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Edge, and S25 Ultra, with screen sizes ranging from 6.2 to 6.9 inches. The introduction of the S25 Edge hinted at a strategic shift, and it appears the S26 Edge will now fill the mid-size flagship role.
Samsung’s strategy seems to be simplifying its product offerings: a standard model for mainstream users, an Edge model with a larger, possibly curved display, and an Ultra model with top-tier specifications for power users.
While Samsung has not confirmed the details of the Galaxy S26 range, leaks often provide early insights into the company’s plans. The official launch is expected in early 2026, when the company will reveal if the Edge model will indeed replace the Plus and how consumers will react to this change.
