Is Samsung’s One UI 8 the key to quantum-resistant security on Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7?

As quantum computing becomes a reality, Samsung is ramping up its security measures to protect devices from potential cyber threats. The tech giant has unveiled new security and privacy features set to launch with the One UI 8 on its upcoming Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, at the Unpacked 2025 event.

These devices will be the first to incorporate three major security updates thanks to the One UI 8 firmware. The updates aim to enhance protection for AI applications and bolster network security against quantum threats, while also enabling users to proactively manage potential risks.

One of the key innovations is Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a new security framework designed to safeguard personal data in the era of AI. KEEP builds on the Personal Data Engine introduced earlier with the Galaxy S25 series, offering encrypted, app-specific storage within Samsung Knox. This ensures that AI-driven features like Now Brief and Smart Suggestions can access necessary data securely.

Additionally, improvements to Samsung’s Knox Matrix, a private blockchain technology for securing smart devices and homes, are part of the update. Users will benefit from enhanced transparency and control, with the system automatically logging out devices identified as high-risk and providing guidance through connected Galaxy devices.

A significant advancement is the introduction of post-quantum cryptography for Samsung’s Secure Wi-Fi system, which will be upgraded to withstand the challenges posed by quantum computing. While the current system offers secure network connections, the new cryptographic framework will address future security needs.

The One UI 8 update will initially be available on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, with a wider rollout planned. However, availability may vary depending on the device model and region. The Unpacked event, where these innovations will be showcased, will be streamed live.
