Is Unitree’s new US$5,900 humanoid robot a game-changer in affordability?

Unitree Robotics has introduced its new R1 humanoid robot, priced at an accessible 39,999 yuan (US$5,900), aiming to attract individual developers and consumers. The R1, designed for sporting activities, demonstrates impressive capabilities such as performing cartwheels, walking on its hands, throwing punches, and running downhill, as shown in a recent video. Weighing 25 kilograms and equipped with 26 joints, the R1 stands out as the most affordable option from the Hangzhou-based company. Previous models, the G1 and H1, are significantly more expensive, starting at 99,000 yuan and 650,000 yuan, respectively. Unitree’s R1 offers a more cost-effective alternative compared to other Chinese competitors, with UBTech Robotics and EngineAI offering their models at higher price points.
