Police in Germany said a security-related incident at Leipzig-Halle airport involving an unidentified object forced the diversion of flights and prompted the deployment of a bomb disposal robot overnight.

Police said in a brief statement that the incident involved at least one unidentified object. A passenger plane from Mallorca and several cargo aircraft bound for the airport were sent to other locations after a flying object was spotted nearby around 11.40pm on Tuesday.
An object was later found near the south runway and a bomb disposal robot was sent to the site, authorities said.
A report said the object discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft was a drone with a detonator and possibly explosives, but police did not immediately confirm that account.
Separately, the report said another cargo plane later collided with an unknown object in mid-air about 6km (four miles) from the airport. That aircraft landed safely at Hanover airport, where minor damage was discovered on the nose section.
