Google has updated its Merchant Center help document to state that the Merchant Center API now supports adding product reviews. The previous version of the document said, “API isn’t currently supported for product reviews data sources.” The updated text now reads, “Add product reviews using API.”
Merchant Center API support for product reviews
The help document change removes the prior explicit restriction on API use for product reviews and introduces support for using Google’s Merchant API to upload and manage review data automatically.
Updated interface navigation
The documentation also revises navigation instructions to reflect the Merchant Center Next layout. The guidance was changed from the legacy path (ANALYTICS > Reviews > Product reviews > Product review data sources) to the new path (Products & store > Reviews > Product reviews > Manage product review sources button).
Onboarding and policy disapprovals
The new version clarifies the onboarding process by adding an explicit step that after submitting the interest form, a Google agent must review the application and manually enable the Merchant Center account. It also adds guidance on handling products disapproved for policy violations (for example, Healthcare and Medicine policies), instructing merchants to resolve the issue and request a manual review for those specific products.
The document further updates terminology, replacing phrasing such as “feed submission” with “data source submission” to align with Merchant Center branding. A screenshot of the diff accompanies the change, and the update has been discussed in a forum thread on X.
