Google today introduced the Pixel Tag, its first branded item tracker, priced at $29 and due to launch in November 2026. The Pixel Tag arrives after Google implemented an item tracking network two years ago that has been used by third-party devices.
Pixel Tag design and hardware
The Pixel Tag is made from stainless steel and carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It has a built-in speaker capable of playing a sound when an attached item is lost, and an on-device button that can trigger a sound on a connected smartphone — a feature the company highlights as distinguishing the Pixel Tag from the AirTag. The tracker has an oval shape and does not include an attachment point, requiring an add-on accessory to attach to keys or bags. Like the AirTag, the Pixel Tag uses a replaceable battery rated to last up to one year. It works with Android devices running Android 9 or newer with Bluetooth 6 and can be tracked in the Find Hub app.
Tracking features and network
Google added Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband to the Pixel Tag, enabling a precision finding feature for items that are nearby but out of sight. The Pixel Tag supports alerts for items left behind and offers the option to share item location with multiple people. When an item is out of range of its owner’s device, the Pixel Tag relies on Google’s Find Hub network, which taps into more than a billion Android devices for locating items.
Privacy protections and pricing
Google says the Pixel Tag includes the same protections as Apple, with Android devices sending alerts when an unknown tag is detected traveling with you. Unknown tracker alerts are cross-platform thanks to a collaboration between Apple and Google, so iPhone users will receive an alert if a Pixel Tag is nearby and vice versa. Google plans to sell Pixel Tags for $29 for a single unit or $99 for a four-pack, the same pricing as the AirTag 2.
