On September 15, 2026, Japan time, Apple released iOS 27 and macOS 27 simultaneously, and Safari gained a new Apple Intelligence feature that lets users “Create new extensions simply by describing them in words.” I tried the feature on my iPhone after updating to iOS 27 and used it to change the color of Wikipedia links from blue to green.
To create the extension, I tapped the button enclosed in the red box in the address bar at the bottom of the screen, then tapped ‘Explain the feature enhancements.’ I tapped the input field at the bottom, typed ‘Change link color to green’ and tapped the send button, then tapped ‘Create.’ A message reading ‘Creating extension’ appeared at the top of the screen while the extension was generated.
An extension named ‘Green Links’ was created in about 20 seconds. I tapped ‘Try it out’ and the link color changed from blue to green as instructed. To finish, I tapped the check button in the upper left corner; from that point on, Wikipedia links were displayed in green on that site.
The interface also supports other simple requests. Examples provided included an extension that copies a page’s title and URL in one action, an extension that changes a page’s background color, and an extension that adds buttons to scroll to the top and bottom of a page. After asking for scroll buttons, the instructed scroll button was added; tapping it moves the page to the very top or very bottom, as shown in the accompanying video.
How Safari lets you manage AI-created extensions
To enable or disable extensions, tap the same button enclosed in the red box at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Manage extensions.’ Tap the extension you want to manage. On that screen you can enable or disable extensions, toggle their use during private browsing, and add websites that are allowed to use each extension.
