Samsung Foundry’s 4nm production capacity is fully booked through next year, according to a new report. The node is being heavily used to manufacture Samsung’s own HBM4 memory chips and Nvidia’s Groq3 LPX accelerators.
Recently, Samsung Foundry’s fab utilization climbed to around 70%–80%, and the company had been aiming to reach full utilization by the end of this year.
Samsung Foundry positions 5nm as an alternative
With its 4nm lines running at full capacity, Samsung is promoting its 5nm process as a more cost-effective option that remains suitable for high-performance applications. The report says overseas fabless companies have been placing a growing number of orders for the 5nm process over the past three to four months.
Geopolitical and market dynamics are also helping Samsung Foundry attract more customers. As TSMC prioritizes its largest clients and its advanced-node capacity remains heavily booked, some companies that cannot secure production slots there are reportedly turning to Samsung instead, further benefiting the South Korean firm.
