Samsung has unveiled the ISOCELL HPC, a new 200MP camera sensor that introduces DeepPix — an improved pixel structure — to capture more light, reduce noise and expand dynamic range. The sensor is already in mass production and could debut in high-end phones in the coming months.
ISOCELL HPC technical highlights
The ISOCELL HPC is a 1/1.3-inch sensor with 0.6 μm pixels, a size similar to several existing 200MP sensors from Samsung. DeepPix, the sensor’s new pixel structure, enables each photodiode to collect significantly more light. Building on Samsung’s Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI), DeepPix increases photodiode Full Well Capacity (FWC) by 60%, which Samsung says yields cleaner photos and videos with richer detail in highlights and shadows.
The sensor supports single-frame HDR across 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x and 4x in-sensor crop zoom levels, improving image and video quality for intermediate crop zooms. That capability is noted as particularly useful for phones that move from a primary wide camera directly to a 5x telephoto lens without a dedicated 3x module, such as the rumored Galaxy S27 Ultra.
On video, the ISOCELL HPC can record 4K at up to 180 frames per second and 8K at 30fps. For stills, it can capture 7.5 full-resolution 200MP images per second; at 50MP the sensor can shoot 30fps, and at 12.5MP it can reach 180fps. The sensor also features Super QPD (PDAF) autofocus and supports RAW output in RAW10, RAW12, RAW14 and native 16-bit RAW formats.
Despite matching the 1/1.3-inch size of the ISOCELL HP2 used in recent Ultra models, the ISOCELL HPC may not be destined for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Leaks suggest Samsung could instead equip the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra with an exclusive 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP6 sensor; the HP6 is rumored to include Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology, which is said to improve dynamic range, color accuracy and noise reduction.
