Apple has posted the official release notes for tvOS 27 nearly two weeks after the software update first shipped, confirming the new features and changes introduced with the release on Monday, September 14. The company does not show release notes for Apple TV updates in the Settings app; instead, it updates a support document that details what’s new.
What’s new in tvOS 27
The notes describe enhancements across Apple Music, Podcasts, and AirPlay, expanded captioning and transcription options, new accessibility and app controls, plus bug fixes and security updates for Apple TV 4K. Key additions include Hi-Res Lossless audio support in Apple Music and AutoMix, which transitions songs with time stretching and beatmatching to create continuous playback.
Video podcasts are now available in the redesigned Podcasts app, bringing shows to the TV. AirPlay performance improvements are listed as delivering faster, more responsive connections when sharing photos, videos, and music from iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Apple TV. The update also adds Transcribed audio to help follow content when standard captions or subtitles are not provided, and Dynamic Text support in Accessibility settings to set a preferred text size across supported apps.
Individual app controls in Settings allow blocking users from launching specific apps. The release notes further state that the update brings captions to more content and includes unspecified bug fixes and security updates for the device.
Compatibility and distribution
tvOS 27 is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer. Because the Apple TV Settings app does not display release notes, Apple’s support document is the primary source for the detailed list of changes.
