Was PancakeSwap’s Chinese social media account hacked?

PancakeSwap has alerted users to a security breach involving its Chinese social media account on X, formerly known as Twitter. The decentralized exchange has urged users not to engage with the account’s recent posts or click on any links until the situation is fully resolved. The compromised account, @PancakeSwapzh, was used by hackers to promote a dubious memecoin called “Mr. Pancake,” leading to some users reportedly losing funds. PancakeSwap is actively working with X to address the breach and has removed fraudulent content from the account. The team is also enhancing security measures to prevent future incidents. Despite the breach, PancakeSwap assured that no user funds or platform assets were accessed by the hacker. Interestingly, the price of PancakeSwap’s native token, CAKE, saw a 12% increase following the announcement. This incident highlights the ongoing threat of social engineering attacks, which exploit human vulnerabilities to bypass blockchain security.
