In a significant cybersecurity incident, The Washington Post has suffered a data breach that exposed the personal and financial information of nearly 10,000 employees and contractors. Hackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle’s E-Business Suite, a critical platform for the newspaper’s HR and financial operations, remaining undetected for over a month. The breach, linked to the notorious Clop ransomware group, took place between July and August 2025 and was discovered on September 29. Oracle has since issued a security patch, but not before the attackers extracted sensitive data, including full names, bank and Social Security numbers. Affected individuals are being offered identity protection services. This attack is part of a broader wave of Oracle E-Business Suite exploits impacting numerous organizations, marking it as one of the major data breaches of 2025.
