The upcoming iPhone 17 Air, set to launch in just under two weeks, is anticipated to showcase the most significant design overhaul since the iPhone X in 2017. This release is generating excitement as the highlight of Apple’s upcoming “Awe Dropping” event.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be the thinnest iPhone yet, measuring just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, with a distinctive horizontal camera bump. It will feature a 6.6-inch display, slightly smaller than the iPhone 16 Plus, and will be lighter due to its hybrid titanium-aluminum frame, weighing approximately 145 grams. The phone will come in black, white, light gold, and a light blue reminiscent of the MacBook Air’s shade.
The display will use Samsung LTPO OLED panels, offering 30% better brightness and potentially supporting 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates. However, it’s unclear if it will have an always-on display feature. The iPhone 17 Air will house either an A19 chip or an A19 Pro, coupled with 12GB RAM, and employ vapor chamber heatsinks for improved thermal performance.
Despite its slim profile, the iPhone 17 Air may have a smaller battery capacity of 2,800mAh, similar to the iPhone 12, but optimized for better performance. It will support Qi 2.2 wireless charging up to 25W. Camera-wise, it will have a single-lens 48-megapixel rear camera and an upgraded 24-megapixel front camera, though it might lack spatial video and photo capabilities.
Connectivity features include the C1 modem chip for 5G, but without mmWave support, and a new Apple-designed Wi-Fi chip with Wi-Fi 7. Additional features include MagSafe charging, an Action Button, and the absence of a SIM tray in more countries. The iPhone 17 Air will launch with iOS 26 and is expected to be priced at $899, although tariff-related increases could affect this.
