What decisions were made at the USAC meeting on Aug. 19?

During the Aug. 19 meeting, the Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) at UCLA endorsed heavy rail alternatives for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor project. USAC, the official student government body, holds open meetings for students, typically every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in person and on Zoom, with virtual sessions biweekly over the summer.

Eli Sepulveda, chief justice of the USA Judicial Board, highlighted a 50% funding cut to the Judicial Board and requested a $5,000 budget transfer. No funding allocations were made in this meeting.

The council appointed several students to various committees, including Brett Baptist to the Campus Programs Committee and Stephanie Orozco to the Community Activities Committee. President Diego Bollo encouraged student participation in the STC public comment period, while other officers reported on various initiatives and appointments.

General Representative Talia Davood discussed plans for a town hall meeting with UCLA administrators. Jayha Buhs Jackson is working on a basic needs event and initiatives like Students First and Fund Our UC, focusing on advocacy and research for student-centered improvements.

Other commissioners and representatives provided updates on hiring, event planning, and collaborations, with a focus on student engagement and support for diverse student groups.
