Apple is gearing up for a major redesign of the iPhone over the next three years, culminating in a groundbreaking “iPhone 20” to mark the 20th anniversary of the device in 2027.
In 2025, the iPhone 17 Air will be introduced, featuring a remarkably thin design at just 5.5mm, making it the slimmest iPhone yet. This sleek profile comes with trade-offs, such as a single-lens camera and reduced battery life due to the slimmer battery.
The year 2026 will see the launch of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, a milestone in the company’s smartphone history. This model will open like a book, showcasing an outer display when closed and a larger inner display when opened. Efforts are being made to minimize the crease, creating the appearance of a continuous glass surface. The foldable iPhone will incorporate a 5.5-inch outer and a 7.8-inch inner display, with a thickness ranging from 4.5 to 4.8mm when open. It will feature Touch ID instead of Face ID and will include dual rear cameras and two front-facing cameras to accommodate both open and closed positions. This foldable model will be available alongside standard iPhone 18 models.
For the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027, Apple is planning a device with a wraparound display that eliminates bezels, presenting a seamless glass appearance without squared edges or front cutouts. This design evolution will be supported by advancements in iOS 26’s Liquid Glass technology.
