What is the Labcorp $35M data breach settlement about?

Labcorp has agreed to a $35 million settlement following allegations that it failed to protect customer data during a breach at the American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA). The settlement affects individuals whose personal information was shared with AMCA and potentially compromised between August 2018 and March 2019, impacting 7.7 million people. While Labcorp has not admitted fault, the settlement allows affected individuals to claim compensation for out-of-pocket losses up to $5,000, covering identity theft and fraud-related expenses, or receive an alternative cash payment estimated at $50. Additionally, all class members are entitled to two years of free credit monitoring services. The deadline to submit claims is September 3, 2026, with a final approval hearing set for August 20, 2026.
