What’s new at Galaxy Unpacked 2026: Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8?

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked is set for July 22 and is expected to unveil the next generation of Samsung foldables: two variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Z Flip 8, new watches, and possibly the company’s first Android XR glasses. These announcements are largely based on recent leaks and official hints published by Samsung.

Two Galaxy Z Fold 8 models? The leaks explained
This year’s rumors point not to one but two versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8: a wider variant and another that keeps dimensions close to the Fold 7. Some leaks suggest one of the models could carry an “Ultra” name, though which one remains unclear. One leak mentions a 7.6-inch inner display for the larger version, bringing it closer to the experience of a small tablet. The same sources indicate that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip could power at least the larger model, putting its performance in line with what’s expected from the next Galaxy S generation.

A notable detail: a dummy unit shared online showed an impressively thin profile when folded — its thickness was compared to an S25 Edge when folded. Samsung has also announced a new Flex Titanium display technology for foldables, promoted for improved durability and reduced crease visibility, which is expected to debut at this Galaxy Unpacked.

Z Flip 8: modest, targeted updates
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 appears to be a fairly conservative evolution of the Flip 7. Leaks mainly point to a new hinge mechanism designed to minimize the visible crease on the screen, along with a slightly larger overall footprint but a modest weight reduction (around 8 g lighter, according to circulating reports). For the U.S. and Chinese markets, some reports indicate a switch to Qualcomm Snapdragon chips — a notable change from the Exynos SoCs previously used on some models.

Worth noting: supply-chain whispers have suggested the Z Flip line could eventually be phased out, but those claims remain highly speculative and do not contradict the existence of a Flip 8 at this time.

Watches: Watch 9 and Ultra 2 — refinements rather than revolutions
Samsung is also expected to use the event to introduce the Galaxy Watch 9 and possibly a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Leaks describe mostly cosmetic updates (new colors and bands) and modest technical refinements. The Ultra 2 could adopt a slightly more angular case, a larger battery, and slimmer screen bezels to increase usable display area. Conversely, the Classic model, cherished for its physical rotating bezel, may not return this year.

Android XR glasses: a closer look, but not a sure thing
Samsung may show a more in-depth preview of its Android XR glasses, which were partially revealed at recent events. The initial pairs reportedly lean toward an audio-first experience (with integration of a Gemini-based assistant) and… [the original sentence trails off here.]

Editor’s note: the source text was incomplete at the end. A plausible continuation based on other leaks would read, for example, “and would include limited visual capabilities rather than full AR displays,” but that completion is speculative and not confirmed by Samsung.
