Aleksandar Yanev, a student at Sofia University, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Bulgarian student to co-author a scientific paper accepted at the prestigious Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). This year, the conference took place in Denver, Colorado. Yanev, currently in his third year at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, is enrolled in INSAIT’s Explorer program, which aims to cultivate young Bulgarian talent in the field of artificial intelligence. Prior to his university studies, he demonstrated exceptional skill in international informatics competitions, such as the Romanian Masters of Informatics and the International Zhautykov Olympiad. At INSAIT, Yanev is dedicated to advancing next-generation AI systems for robotics. His co-authored paper, SPEAR-1, has been highlighted by Wired as a significant step forward in this domain. INSAIT, located in Sofia, is the first institute in Eastern Europe to offer research opportunities on par with leading Western institutions. It operates as a specialized unit of the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and was founded in collaboration with ETH Zurich and EPFL. The institute’s mission is to drive world-class scientific research, attract renowned scholars, and train future leaders in technology.
