Why is Belkin recalling certain products due to fire risks?

Belkin, a well-known manufacturer of iPhone accessories, has recalled three of its products due to potential fire hazards. The affected items include the Auto-Tracking Stand Pro (model MMA008), the BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K (model BPB2002), and the Playa USB-C PD Power Bank 20K (model PB0003). These products, available in black and white, were sold on Belkin’s website and through major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy.

The recall comes after a manufacturing defect was discovered that could cause the lithium-cell batteries in these devices to overheat, posing fire and burn risks. Approximately 83,500 units were sold in the U.S. and 2,385 in Canada. There have been reports of one fire incident in the U.S. and 15 internationally, resulting in two minor burn injuries and property damage amounting to $37,765 outside the U.S.

Owners of the affected models are advised to stop using them immediately, disconnect them from power sources, and store them safely away from flammable materials. Customers are instructed not to dispose of these items in waste or recycling bins. Belkin is offering full refunds or store credit upon proof of ownership, such as a receipt or an image showing the product’s serial number. If a receipt is unavailable, the average sales price will be refunded, or customers can choose store credit worth 20% more than the device’s average sales price.
