As July unfolds, Galaxy phone users in the USA face a significant change: Samsung Messages will be discontinued this month, with Google Messages taking its place as the official messaging app. Samsung had previously announced this transition, but only recently confirmed that the app will cease operations on July 6.
This change affects only the US market; Samsung Messages will remain available elsewhere. Future Galaxy phones in the USA, such as the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, will come pre-installed with Google Messages. The transition has already occurred for Galaxy S26 users, who were the first to receive devices without Samsung Messages and are unable to download it from the Galaxy Store.
To ensure a smooth transition, Samsung advises users to install Google Messages and set it as their default app. Conversations from Samsung Messages should transfer automatically, though some may experience delays. For detailed guidance, users can refer to Samsung’s End of Service announcement page.
