The upcoming HomePod mini 2 is expected to forgo the inclusion of Apple’s new N1 networking chip, as revealed by recent code analysis. Earlier this year, a macOS kernel debug kit from Apple hinted at several forthcoming devices, including the HomePod mini 2. The code references a “Sunrise” wireless system, indicating the use of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips from MediaTek. This suggests that contrary to earlier rumors, the HomePod mini 2 will not feature the N1 chip, which Apple internally refers to as “Centauri.” The N1 chip is anticipated to be reserved for Apple’s premium devices, while more affordable products will continue to use MediaTek technology. The HomePod mini 2, alongside other devices like the iPhone 17e and iPad 12, is projected to incorporate MediaTek chips. The N1, which debuted in the iPhone 17, is Apple’s inaugural in-house networking chip, offering enhanced integration with Apple hardware and software for better efficiency and reliability, supporting Bluetooth 6, Wi-Fi 7, and Thread.
