The iPhone 18 Pro is set to feature different modem chips depending on the market. In the United States, the device will continue to use Qualcomm modems, while internationally, it will be equipped with Apple’s own C2 modem. This information comes from a cyberattack on Tata Electronics, an Apple manufacturing partner. The leaked documents indicate that U.S. models will include several Qualcomm components for mmWave 5G support, while international versions will rely on the C2 modem, which lacks mmWave capability. This decision reflects Apple’s ongoing strategy to reduce its dependency on Qualcomm, although the need for mmWave support in the U.S. market, driven by carriers like Verizon and AT&T, has necessitated the continued use of Qualcomm hardware. The C2 modem is noted for its power efficiency, potentially offering better battery life in markets outside the U.S. The iPhone 18 Pro, along with the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable iPhone, is expected to launch in the fall.
