Will the iPhone 18’s 9GB RAM support new iOS 27 features?

The upcoming iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e will feature an increase in RAM to 9GB, up from the 8GB found in their predecessors, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e. This upgrade aims to ensure smooth performance of Apple Intelligence features. Meanwhile, the high-end iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra will maintain the 12GB RAM seen in previous Pro models. These premium models are anticipated for release in September, whereas the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air are expected around March 2027. Despite the RAM increase, the iPhone 18 and 18e will not support two new features in iOS 27: customizable Siri voice expressiveness and improved speech-to-text accuracy. These require a minimum of 12GB RAM, which is reserved for the higher-end models. The RAM details for the iPhone 17 series are confirmed, with the iPhone 17e and iPhone 17 both having 8GB, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have 12GB. The iPhone 18 series and iPhone Ultra are rumored to have similar configurations, with the second-generation iPhone Air expected to also have 12GB RAM. Current supply shortages have driven up the cost of RAM and NAND storage chips, leading to price increases across several Apple products.
