Apple has introduced two innovative features for the iPhone that may prove to be more practical than recent AI advancements. The first feature, demonstrated at the WWDC, allows users to analyze food directly through the iPhone camera, providing nutritional information without the need for barcodes or QR codes. This Visual Intelligence tool operates from the live camera feed and uses on-device processing to identify and suggest actions based on the contents of the plate. The second feature simplifies the process of splitting restaurant bills. By pointing the camera at a check, the iPhone can divide the total amount among a group and calculate individual shares. Integrated with Apple Cash, users can make payments directly from the interface without switching apps. Both features are powered by a new Siri mode integrated into the Camera app, where on-device models interpret scenes, extract details, and suggest actions based on the user’s view.
