Is China speeding up the creation of a World AI Cooperation Organization?

China is advancing its efforts to establish a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. In a recent press conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for new governance mechanisms to address the challenges posed by emerging technologies. He highlighted the importance of improving governance frameworks for areas like outer space, polar regions, and cyberspace. China is actively promoting international AI cooperation through multilateral platforms and is set to host the 2026 World AI Conference this July. Zhou Haibing, vice chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, stated that China is fostering an open and inclusive international cooperation landscape, rejecting models of exclusivity and technological monopolization. The upcoming conference in Shanghai aims to further strengthen global AI partnerships.
