Are OpenAI and Anthropic limiting new AI models to Trump-approved customers?

OpenAI has announced that it will restrict the release of its latest artificial intelligence model following a request from President Donald Trump’s administration. This decision comes as part of an unprecedented government review of AI products for cybersecurity threats. Meanwhile, Anthropic revealed that it received approval from the Trump administration to release a limited version of its advanced cybersecurity model, following a recent ban by the U.S. Commerce Department. Both companies plan to offer their new models exclusively to a select group of trusted partners. OpenAI’s new AI model, named GPT-5.6 Sol, will be available only to those customers who have received approval from the Trump administration.
