Samsung is preparing a big upgrade to battery life on its next flagship phones: recent leaks suggest both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will exceed the 5,000 mAh mark. The Galaxy S27 lineup will include four models, with the Pro and Ultra receiving the largest capacity increases.
Announced capacities for Pro and Ultra
– Leaks indicate a “rated” battery of 5,087 mAh for the Galaxy S27 Pro, which Samsung may market as a 5,200 mAh “typical” capacity.
– The Galaxy S27 Ultra is said to step up to a 5,534 mAh “rated” cell, potentially advertised as 5,700 mAh typical.
If confirmed, the Ultra’s figures would represent the first meaningful capacity increase for that variant since the line debuted in 2020; previous Ultra models generally hovered around the 5,000 mAh range.
Why this increase is technically plausible
The jump in capacity is likely tied to adoption of a silicon-carbon anode structure, a battery chemistry Samsung already uses in some recent foldables. Silicon-carbon anodes can raise cell energy density without significantly increasing battery volume, which helps deliver larger capacities inside comparable smartphone chassis.
What it means for users
Higher nominal capacity should translate to better real-world battery life, but actual gains will depend on software optimization, SoC efficiency, and display refresh rates. Samsung will probably highlight the higher “typical” numbers in marketing, while the “rated” figure reflects the battery’s measured capacity. Even so, the rumored boost is a noteworthy evolution for the Galaxy S line—especially for the Ultra model, which hasn’t seen a large capacity bump in several years.
As always with leaks, these numbers need official confirmation. Still, they point to a clear priority: improving endurance without compromising the design.
