Galaxy Fold8 Surpasses Galaxy S Series with 1.44M Pre-orders

The Samsung Galaxy Fold8 and Galaxy Fold8 Ultra secured 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea, marking the first time Samsung’s foldable lineup has overtaken the flagship Galaxy S series in popularity — a milestone experts are calling a historic achievement for the brand.

Galaxy Fold8 sales breakdown

The primary driver of the record was the base Galaxy Fold8, which accounted for roughly 70% of requests, or about 1 million units, while the premium Galaxy Fold8 Ultra collected 440,000 pre-orders. The previous record holders were the Galaxy S26 series with 1.35 million pre-orders, the Galaxy S25 with 1.3 million, and the Galaxy Note10 series with 1.38 million. Strong demand has already led to the depletion of initial stock in Korea and several international markets.

Design, production and availability

A notable design change for the Galaxy Fold8 is a wider body format: the internal display now uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, which Samsung says significantly improves the user experience compared with earlier generations. Samsung focused production on the standard Fold8, ordering 2.8 million display panels for that model — 40% more than the planned production volume for the Ultra version.

Pre-orders in South Korea ran from July 28 to August 3, with early customer fulfillment beginning on August 4 and the official sales launch scheduled for August 7. Analysts forecast that total sales for the first global batch could exceed the 2 million unit mark.

Retail pricing in Ukraine and equivalent figures: the Samsung Galaxy Fold8 starts from 81,999 UAH, $1 975, €1 815. The Samsung Galaxy Fold8 Ultra starts from 90,999 UAH, $2 190, €2 015.

The strong launch suggests foldable smartphones are shifting from a niche segment toward the mass market. If global demand remains strong, this new Fold8 lineup could become one of Samsung’s most successful. Based on sales statistics, the base model appears to be the optimal choice for mass-market users, while the Ultra is positioned for tech enthusiasts and power users.
