Samsung Mobile US posted a series of tweets on X on September 9, 2026, taking aim at Apple shortly after the company unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and its first foldable, the iPhone Duo. The posts mocked Apple’s move into foldables and reiterated prior criticisms of iPhone features.
Earlier on the same day, Samsung had posted, “So far, so same #ItsTimeToSwitch,” a message published before the Apple event that hinted at encouraging iPhone users to switch to Samsung.
When Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro at the event, Samsung posted again: “It’s feeling very familiar. Is this a Sims sequel…” The post suggested the new iPhone 18 Pro is similar to the iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone Duo and the social-media exchange
Ahead of the foldable iPhone’s reveal, Samsung targeted Apple’s upcoming device with another post: “Making us wait? Fine. We’ll be over here, folding 3 ways,” a reference to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold and its three-panel design.
After Apple officially introduced the iPhone Duo, Samsung continued the exchange with two further tweets: “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers 😉” and “I’m so sorry, @DuoLingo. They copied us too #Solidarity.” Both posts were published on September 9, 2026.
Duolingo replied to the online exchange with a post referencing a viral meme: “when an ugly stranger calls you twin 😂😭 No Brand,” a message that also included a jab at Samsung.
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, on Wednesday in California. According to Apple, the iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever, with a 7.6-inch inner display intended for viewing content, gaming and multitasking. When closed, the device’s 5.4-inch outer display offers 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro while retaining a compact, pocketable design.
Samsung previously launched its first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, in 2019, while Apple entered the foldable market in 2026 with the iPhone Duo.
