iPhone Duo: Gurman Says ‘Duo Max’ With Larger Display Likely

Mark Gurman says Apple will likely release an “iPhone Duo Max” with a larger display in the coming years and explains why the company chose the three-letter “Duo” suffix.

Writing in his Power On newsletter, Gurman reported that in the months leading up to Apple’s iPhone Duo unveiling some employees had begun referring to the device as the “iPhone Ultra,” possibly influenced by media coverage and leaker speculation. Apple ultimately opted for the “Duo” suffix, Gurman says, because it matches names like Air and Pro and leaves room for additional suffixes that “wouldn’t have worked with ‘Ultra’.”

iPhone Duo future models

Gurman foresees Apple releasing an “iPhone Duo Max” in the future, which would likely feature a larger display. He also suggests the company could introduce a “Duo SE” with stripped-down specifications or a “Duo Mini” with a clamshell design.

He adds that he fully expects the iPhone Duo to become the “predominant foldable phone on the market,” citing the device’s software adaptations, high-quality hardware and durability compared with other foldables. Gurman describes the product as “so impressive” that it will “turn foldables into the new normal.”
